Manual transfer switches allow home owners to safely switch from the utility power to a back-up generator during power black-out. The transfer switches are designed to handle emergency circuits only during a power outage. Examples of the circuits are refrigerators, sump pumps, furnaces and submergible well pumps.
During a power outage, plug the generator into manual transfer switch and turn one circuit at a time from the "LINE" position to the "GEN" position. Turn the appliance on the circuit ON and monitor the wattage used by the appliance. When operating off of the generator, it is recommended that the loads are approximately the same on both meters to maximize the efficiency of the generator. When normal power is restored the selector switch on the Transfer Switch is returned to the line position and the plug cap from the generator is removed from the Transfer Switch.
